Introduction Industrial production Practical use

Introduction:
The poultry industry is one of the most intensive livestock industries in the world. Intensive poultry production requires, primarily, two main inputs, namely net energy and digestible amino acids, together with vitamins and trace minerals. The energy of the feed is mot commonly derived from cereals and to lesser extern from cereal by-products and other industrial by-products. In addition to supplying energy, the cereals also supple about 50 percent of the digestible amino acids in typical poultry diets. The reminder is supplied by protein concentrates of which fish meal, soybean meal, groundnut meal, cottonseed, rapeseed an skin milk powders are the most important. Recent advances have been made in developing industrial process for economical production of synthetic amino acids. Lysine and methionine have been available economically for sever years.
A typical problem in feed formulation is the achievement of an optimum balance of nutrients to meet the animal’s requirement from a particular range of raw materials. As the ratio between the individual amino acid in protein concentrates vary substantially, there may be occasions when it is not possible, within the range of raw materials available, to meet the animals requirement for all amino acids. In these situations supplementation wit free synthetic amino acids would be very successful. In addition to this, supplementation with synthetic amino acid in diets of poultry increases feed conversion efficiency, lowers feed cost per unit of weight gain or production, reduces nitrogen excretion and have other beneficial effects. This paper analyses various beneficial and detrimental effects of synthetic amino acids in poultry diet and its scenario in poultry production.

Synthetic Amino acids
A number of feed-grade synthetic amino acids are now available for economic use in the animal feeds. These are methionine, lysine, threonine and trpthophan.

Chemical Names
a) Methionine:
    Alpha : amino- y – methylmercaptobutyric acid
b) Lysine: a-e-di-amino-valeric acid
    Threonine : a amino – β hydroxyl-n-butric acid
c) Tryptophan : B-3-indole-a-amino-propionic acid
